February 8
If the Good Lord wanted more of us to see the sunrise,
He would have scheduled it later in the day!
Edward Gibbon (“Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire”) lists the reasons for the decline and fall of the Roman system:
1. Family life disintegrated.
2. The world of entertainment became corrupt.
3. Moral absolutes were discarded.
4. The cost of the empire’s military was paralyzing.
5. The empire’s economy collapsed.
Indeed, food for thought in relation to today’s world!
The world rings changes, it is never constant but in its disappointments. The world is but a great inn, where we are to stay a night or two, and be gone; what madness is it so to set our heart upon our inn, as to forget our home? -- Thomas Watson
"Joy is a net of love by which we can catch souls." --Mother Teresa 1975
"Man's mind, once stretched by a new idea, never regains its original dimensions." -- Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr.
"Leaders must learn to discipline their disappointments. It's not what happens to us, it is what we choose to do about what happens that makes the difference in how our lives turn out." -- Jim Rohn
"No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave." -- Calvin Coolidge
"Opportunity often comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat." -- Napoleon Hill
"The mind is like a parachute. It doesn't work unless it's open." -- Unknown
A father was approached by his small son who told him proudly, "I know what the Bible means!"
His father smiled and replied, "What do you mean, you 'know' what the Bible means?"
The son replied, "I do know!"
"Okay," said his father. "What does the Bible mean?"
"That's easy, Daddy," the young boy replied excitedly, "It stands for 'Basic Information Before Leaving Earth.'"
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because some day in life you will have been all these. George Washington Carver
"Expect the best, plan for the worst, and prepare to be surprised." -- Denis Waitley
"I can give you a six-word formula for success: Think things through - then follow through." -- Captain Edward V. Rickenbacker
"Everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself." -- Leo Tolstoy
"Be careful the environment you choose for it will shape you; be careful the friends you choose for you will become like them." -- W. Clement Stone
George Burns once said, "Tennis is a game for young people. Until age 25, you can play singles. From there until age 35, you should play doubles. I won't tell you my age, but when I played, there were 28 people on the court--just on my side of the net."
"An idealist believes the short run doesn't count. A cynic believes the long run doesn't matter. A realist believes that what is done or left undone in the short run determines the long run." -- Syndey J. Harris
Nothing ever comes up in your life but Christ anticipated it long ago, has been prepared for it from the beginning and, if you will let Him, will carry you through it in glorious victory. --A. B. Simpson
God would love to piece together the shattered fragments of your life. But He is waiting … graciously waiting until the time is right. Until you are tired of the life you are living … until you see it for what it really is. Until you are weary of coping … of taking charge of your own life … until you realize the mess you are making of it. Until you recognize your need for Him … He’s waiting. --Charles Swindoll
WITHOUT GOD
Without GOD, our week would be Sinday, Mournday, Tearsday, Wasteday, Thirstday, Fightday and Shatterday.
"Enjoy the little things for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." -- Robert Brault
